Night's Beauty

My most recent (and most successful) attempt at the night sky. It was strange. I used a telephoto lens for the first time on the night sky (I got it for Christmas). The tripod was a bit wiggly, and I had no idea what I was doing. I also had to use manual focus, which I try to stay away from because I can't ever tell if it's truly focusing or not. Therefore, those two pictures of the moon were the only two that focused correctly (out of thirty tries).
Practice makes perfect, right? ;)
I got two nice ones of the stars. The first one isn't above because it wasn't showing up well on here. It looks nice on my computer, though. And then there's the one above. It's an unintentional attempt at a short star trail picture.
Overall, I'm quite pleased. It was fun to take pictures of the sky. It's been so cloudy at night that this is the first time I've been able to since winter came.

  3. Those are cool photos! I can never get my camera to do anything after dusk unless the flash is on. I have had panoramic phoos do like that star one if there's a car on the road, the headlights have this ghost effect.

    1. Thanks, Ajax! Yeah, I've always had trouble with nighttime photos. But the trails, like yours with the headlights, are cool.

  4. Oo, I love it! The moon ones are absolutely perfect. The third one looks like colored shooting stars to me. :P I have to try some night photography sometime.

    1. Thank you, Liz! :) You should. Just don't get frustrated-it's really tough. >.< I almost did, which would have totally ruined the experience, but I managed to stay calm.

  5. I love the photos of the moon. What camera do you use? I've been really considering getting a nice camera instead of my old digital one. :P

  6. Very nice. :) I have a simple digital camera, so it definitely would not work for night time shots. :P I'm investing in a new one though at a fairly good price - any suggestions?

    1. Thank you, Emmy!
Personally, I like Canon the best. They're very easy to use. My camera, a Canon Rebel XSi is a wonderful camera. It's not the most up-to-date by far, but it's wonderful.
Don't feel like you have to get the newest camera. You don't. In fact, unless you're going to do photography professionally or anything like that, I wouldn't. And don't buy it directly from the camera store. You can find it at other places (like Walmart or Best Buy, etc.) for cheaper, probably.
